Description“If art reflects life, it does so with special mirrors.” Bertolt Brecht, A Short Organum for the Theatre.

Often, when you look at a piece of art, it reflects the artist’s background, culture, worldview, personal identity, history, and feelings. This is true from the oldest paintings on the ancient walls of caves to modern graffiti sprayed on an old dilapidated building. Our diverse “locations” mirror how we view the world, respond to our environment, and express ourselves in various forms of art. Art becomes a medium for expressing and mirroring “where we come from.”

The same can be true of an object that is depicted. The artwork can bare the object’s life experience and

convey its significance. We call on artists to submit their works of art that reflect this theme by revealing the “special mirrors” of where you are from, and thus your art reflecting your life story, or the narrative of a

special object.

This is a visual celebration of your personal/cultural heritage, a pictorial commemoration of a family heirloom or the unique object that helped you endure a difficult journey.
